How is it calculated?

The carbon footprint of your deliveries is the kgCO2e emitted in delivering products from the warehouse to customers. 

Kg CO2e is the carbon dioxide equivalent of emissions. This means that all the greenhouse gases are added together and converted into CO2 to measure the impact of deliveries. 

The average kg CO2e for deliveries (carbon dioxide equivalent emissions), includes methane and other greenhouse gases.

Chyulu Hills REDD+

This project helps protect the Chyulu Hills landscape, its forests, woodlands, savannahs, wetlands and springs, and its wild populations of Africa’s best-known animals – lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, rhinos, elephants, and various antelopes.

Southern Cardamoms REDD+

The Southern Cardamoms REDD+ project protects 497,000 hectares of tropical rainforest in South-West Cambodia which are globally significant for wildlife conservation, ecosystem servicing, and community livelihoods. The project uses global best practices of forest protection and community development to safeguard the forest.

Tambopata-Bahuaja Biodiversity Reserve

This project addresses the local, economic drivers of deforestation and forest degradation by supporting the development of socially inclusive farming, land-use capacity building, and improved forest protection and surveillance of natural resources.

Tiffin offsets every delivery with Vaayu

Daily Order Information

Using the daily order information, Vaayu calculates the carbon footprint for all orders real-time. 



Identifying Mode of Transport

Based on the hops a probabilistic model is used to determine the mode of transport for each hop. Different factors are combined using a Multivariate Gaussian model.

Splitting Deliveries

The Carbon Model splits deliveries into individual pieces called hops. This is a complex process based on a variety of factors. Starting with the origin and the destination.

Applying Emission Factors

For each hop an emission factor specific to mode of transport and carrier is then applied to the distance. Unlike other models the result is a normal distribution instead of a flat number, allowing us to accurately estimate the accuracy of the result. Emission factors are always as holistic as possible. For example they utilise radiation factors from flights, use Well-to-Wheel and Life Cycle Analysis data.
